The International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) 61st Annual Conference & EMEX 2013 is open for registration. EMAP will be hosting a session Innovative Solutions to Program Sustainment during this year’s conference in Reno, Nevada, October 25-30. The purpose of this conference is to “[provide] a forum to discuss current trends and topics, share information about the latest tools and technology in emergency management and homeland security.” EMAP will also be exhibiting at this conference to network with program representatives and current and future assessors. During the post conference activities, EMAP will host the EMAP Training Course October 31 – November 1 (preliminary times are 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. both days). This training provides emergency management, preparedness, and homeland security personnel with valuable information in assisting them how to assess a jurisdiction’s program for disaster/hazard preparedness using the Emergency Management Standard by EMAP. Serving as an EMAP Accreditation Manager and/or an EMAP Assessor is an excellent way to serve the public and the profession of emergency management while broadening one’s knowledge of emergency management practices. The primary purpose of this training is to provide the necessary information, tools, and resources for personnel wishing to become an EMAP expert—whether to assist their program to achieve accreditation or to be a member of the EMAP Assessor Cadre. Specifically, they will be oriented to the following key topics:
- Obtain a basic understanding of EMAP including the steps involved in the EMAP accreditation process.
- Examine the Emergency Management Standard by EMAP and explore the need and application of standards.
- Understanding the responsibilities and expectations of an accreditation manager and an assessor.
- A brief tutorial on how to use the online EMAP Program Assessment Tool.
